Dangerous Roads: Washington Boulevard
Washington Boulevard is one of the most dangerous roads in Baltimore, particularly where it meets Monroe Street with fast-moving lines of traffic coming together from multiple directions. There are more than 20 crashes per year at this intersection alone, plus many more at other locations along Washington Boulevard.
Part of the National Highway System. This roadway has been widened over the years to allow for the daily heavy flow of traffic throughout this area. This is one of the main thoroughfares between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. to the southwest. It runs parallel to I-95 and is almost treated as another interstate highway, with vehicles whipping down the road at extremely fast speeds.
Unlike an interstate, this boulevard has more than 10 major intersecting roads with stoplights. All it takes is one distracted driver and a catastrophic accident can happen on Washington Boulevard.
