A Hyundai Elantra Strikes a 32 Year Old and Her Dog In a Pedestrian Accident Resulting in Death
Incident Information
A tragic event unfolded early this morning in Prince George’s County as a fatal pedestrian crash claimed the life of Kerri Snead. The 32-year-old Virginia resident was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind a trail of grief and heartache for her loved ones. The crash also resulted in the loss of a beloved pet, a dog who was traveling with Snead and another occupant at the time.
Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack troopers received a report around 3am of the crash on the Outer Loop of Interstate 495 at Allentown Road. The preliminary investigation revealed that Snead’s car was experiencing mechanical issues while traveling south on the Inner Loop of I-495. The victim, along with another occupant and their dog, exited the vehicle and attempted to cross the Outer Loop when Snead and her dog were tragically struck by a Hyundai.
The scene was chaotic as emergency personnel also rushed to assist the driver of the Hyundai Elantra involved in the crash who was quickly transported by ambulance to the University of Maryland Capital Regional Medical Center in Largo, Maryland for treatment of their injuries.
The accident caused the closure of the northbound lanes of I-495 at Allentown Boulevard for more than four hours. The Maryland State Police Crash Team swiftly responded and are currently conducting an investigation to determine what caused the crash. Despite their best efforts, the cause of the accident still remains uncertain. This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vehicular safety and caution on the road. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones during this difficult time and we hope for a speedy recovery for all others involved.
