Ford Edge Collides with a Peterbilt Truck Tractor Resulting in Death on Route 234

On Monday, December 05, 2022, tragedy stuck on Maryland Route 234 (Budds Creek Road) in the area of Edgewater Drive as two vehicles collided in a serious motor vehicle accident. Troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded to the scene and determined that a 2016 Ford Edge operated by Judson Edward Lewis (71 years old) of Newburg, Maryland was traveling west on Maryland Route 234 when it collided with an approaching 2018 Peterbilt truck tractor towing a semi-trailer driven by Johnnie Edward Hurst Jr., (55 years old) of Nokesville, Virginia who was headed eastbound. The Ford car drove into the other lane for an unknown reason and hit the Peterbilt truck head-on. The driver of the Ford, Mr. Lewis, died on the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt, Mr. Hurst, was hurt but his injuries are not life-threatening. He was taken to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center by ambulance.
Troopers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) came to inspect the Peterbilt truck.
