Car Accident: One Killed on Liberty Road in Carroll County

Late Saturday night in Carroll County, tragedy struck as a speeding driver, attempting to evade deputies, collided head-on with another vehicle on Liberty Road in Eldersburg. Initially prompted by a deputy’s attempt to conduct a routine traffic stop around 11:30 p.m., the situation quickly escalated when the driver refused to comply.

After losing sight of the fleeing vehicle, law enforcement officers were horrified to witness it veer across double yellow lines, leading to a fatal collision with an SUV. The impact claimed the life of the SUV’s driver, while a passenger fortunately is expected to recover. Despite attempting to evade capture, the fleeing driver also suffered injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

In the aftermath of this devastating incident, the Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General has been tasked with unraveling the events leading to the fatal crash following the police pursuit. Fortunately, the deputy involved was equipped with both a body-worn camera and a dashboard camera in their cruiser, providing crucial footage for investigation purposes.
