Car Accident: Multi-Vehicle Crash in Hagerstown Results in Injuries

Two people were hospitalized following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Hagerstown on Thursday morning.

Just before 10 a.m., troopers were called to the scene on I-70 West near Virginia Avenue, where six vehicles had been involved in a crash. The preliminary investigation by state police indicated that the incident began when a vehicle, for reasons that remain unclear, started to veer across multiple lanes of traffic. At one point, the vehicle was struck by oncoming traffic, setting off a chain reaction.

This caused a domino effect, resulting in six vehicles being involved in the crash. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and two individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. At this time, the conditions of the injured parties remain unknown. The crash caused significant traffic disruptions, with all lanes on I-70 West being closed for over an hour while emergency crews and investigators worked to clear the wreckage and assess the situation. Fortunately, all lanes have since been reopened to traffic.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Maryland State Police. Authorities are working to determine whether speed, road conditions, or driver error played a role in the incident.
