Bicycle Accident Victim Died on the Old Georgetown Road and Cheshire Drive

Incident Information

Just after 4 p.m. on Monday, police and rescue personnel were called to the intersection of Old Georgetown Road and Cheshire Drive in Montgomery County, Maryland, after receiving reports that a cyclist had been hit by a car. Upon arrival, they found that 18-year-old Enzo Marcel Alvarenga had been riding a Trek bicycle south on the northbound sidewalk on Old Georgetown Rd. when he collided with a white 2012 Ford F-250 cargo van. Alvarenga was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but police believe that Alvarenga may have left the sidewalk just before the collision for reasons that are still unknown. Alvarenga was pronounced dead on the scene by first responders. Officials say that the driver of the car stayed after the crash and is cooperating with the investigation. Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
